Explosion Rocks Maiduguri Market

This morning, July 1st, an explosion occurred at a market in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The incident occurred during a peak period, as the market was busy, according to Sahara Reporters.

According to reports, the explosives were hidden in a vehicle transporting charcoal.

A Borno State government official reportedly confirmed the incident, stating that the number of casualties is “high.”

So far, 18 people are confirmed dead, BBC reports.

The market that was attacked is reportedly the biggest open-air market in Maiduguri.
